Dave Renaud and Mike Manny share some of their jazz compositions.
David Renaud
Dave is a multi-instrumentalist; it would be a challenge to list them all but it includes clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone saxophones, flute, alto flute, and piccolo. He studied music at Humber College and Ottawa University. Dave is a regular performer and busy freelancer performing for festivals, pit work, studios, clubs, and private and corporate events. He has performed for National Arts Centre Pops concerts since 1996, and covers a multitude of instruments for theatre pit orchestras. For 40 years he has been immersed in a diverse and rich musical life performing swing, jazz, theatre, orchestral, and studio music. With the release of First Love, and its sequel, Encore, Dave partnered with the great Canadian jazz veteran Brian Browne to produce a lyrical, creative, and beautiful jazz collection of standards. Dave just completed his third album featuring original compositions. Dave is not only a very talented musician. He’s a first-call piano tuner and technician in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, a bandleader, a composer and arranger, and teacher. Dave is the clarinet professor at Carleton University.
Mike Manny
A first-generation Canadian of Caribbean/West Indian descent, Mike Manny was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He was immersed in the world of music at the tender age of 4 years old with the Humber College – Music Education for Children Program. He continued his music training throughout high school at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, post-secondary education at Humber College, and eventually, graduate studies at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
After studying in NYC, Mike returned to Toronto where he freelanced throughout Southern Ontario performing in various jazz settings and local Salsa bands. After starting his military career in the Artillery Reserves, Mike transferred to the Regular Force as a full-time musician, where as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, he has travelled the world performing music.
